Town Clerk contact info: email or call (413) 296-4741

The Town Clerk is an excellent source of information about Town Government. He or she records the votes of Town Meetings, coordinates the activities of many Town officers, and has official responsibility for certifying the actions of the Select Board and other officials.

The Town Clerk is responsible for maintaining official Town records and keeping the vital statistics of the Town updated.  He or she also submits reports to government agencies as required by law; collects fees; and issues permits, certificates, and licenses for such things as marriage, births, deaths and dogs.

The Clerk is an election official and works closely with the Board of Registrars in registering voters and compiling the annual street list of Town residents.  He or she also issues and receives nomination papers for elective Town office.

Legally, the Town Clerk must be notified at least 48 hours in advance to post all meetings scheduled by Town boards and committees.

The Town Clerk's office is open Monday evenings from 6:30 - 8:30 and the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month from 9:00 - 11:30 AM.  The direct phone line is (413) 296-4741 or use the email.

Dog Licenses:

Please remember to license your dogs. Licenses are due March 31st.   Please get your dogs vaccinated and send your information to the Town Clerk as soon as possible.  Paperwork and fees can be dropped off in the new outside dropbox at the Town Offices or mailed.  Dog License forms are attached at the bottom of this page. When mailing in your completed form, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope so the dog license can be mailed to you. Be sure to include all the required information for rabies and the required payment.

The Dog License Form is attached at the bottom of this page..

Marriage Intentions or Business Certificates:

If you need to fill out official forms such as marriage intentions or business certificates, call or email the Town Clerk to set up an appointment for this.

Certified copies of births, deaths or marriages may be requested through either email or regular USPS mail.  The cost for each certified copy is $10.  You may pick up documents from the Town Clerk or copies will be mailed out once payment is received. Checks should be made payable to the Town of Chesterfield and mailed to Town Clerk, P.O. Box 13, Chesterfield, MA  01012. Please include a self-addressed stamped envelope to mail back the documents.

Contact the Town Clerk via email or phone for any other business questions.

Annual Street Listing:

The 2022 annual Street Listing form has been mailed out and must be returned to the Clerk’s office to update current information for such things as school population, senior citizen programs, and voters list. The information will supply accurate counts for grant programs as well as many other government services that a town can apply for.  If you have not received the street listing notify the clerk at (413) 296-4741 or email request.
